"I can remember thinking Debs how brilliant you were with
info and quick responses despite us not having actually booked. It
was pretty impressive and also your enthusiasm really shone through
.... Steve was all of the above!!! For our family he absolutely
made the trip so special. The girls adored him and he was so kind
to them in so many little ways. For someone who had travelled so
much in Africa I was impressed how he was always enthusiastic about
where we were going and could impart knowledge, road conditions and
instructions in such a humorous and entertaining way. He is a
marvelous story teller and regularly had the girls spell bound and
gob smacked all in one!
Tracey was a gentle girl and her enthusiasm for Africa was just so
refreshing. She was lovely to be with and despite not having
visited some of the countries we went to, her information was spot
on and well researched. She too has a really nice way of explaining
what's ahead for the next day etc. She was very considerate of
everyone in the group."
Kate and family,
Australia, 2011
"Don't really think there was a best part or worst part.
Overall it was a great experience. The 'hard yards' will be
remembered with just as much clarity as will the coldest beer! All
of it was an experience that we would not have missed."
Pete and Barb,
Australia, 2011
"The website fired the imagination and built a degree of
excitement. However, did not give too much detail so there was
always a surprise in store. There were so many new sightings of
animals, scenery and people that were best on that occasion, it is
difficult to pick the best. I guess it comes down to just
experiencing Africa. Some campsites were better than others, but
this was to be expected. We were on safari in Africa not Australia!
The product you are selling is excellent. You are selling an
expedition. Be careful not to dilute the safari image by changing
the camping aspect."
Graham and
Narelle, Australia, 2011
"It really was a sensational African Safari holiday, thanks
again!"
Colin and Carolynn,
Dubai, 2009
"I must thank you again for a wonderful African trip...your
organisational, social and cooking skills are second to none... I
am sure it has been a life changing experience for the kids....lets
hope they continue their travels in the future."
Graeme and Trish, New
Zealand, 2009
"Thanks again for a great African Safari - we did really
enjoy it and especially appreciated the effort you went to for
Dave’s birthday and for Christmas. Fantastic."
Dave and Anne, New
Zealand, 2009
"Excellent vehicles, excellent equipment, excellent
organization. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We have no
hesitation in recommending Africa Expedition Support and look
forward to traveling with you guys again in the future."
Paul and Linda,
Britain, 2009
"I cannot thank you guys enough for such a brilliant Kenya
and Tanzania safari of discovery. As you know Sharon was not keen
on a guided self drive and took some convincing – she is now your
greatest advocate! Many thanks for all the hard work and enthusiasm
you poured into making the last 2 weeks totally unforgettable and
excellent value for money. We really enjoyed the small group of
only 4 vehicles. Keep up the high standard and quality African
Safari service."
Peter and Sharon,
Australia, 2009

What is Overlanding in Africa?
Much to the surprise of many, the concept of traveling overland throughout Africa on safari has been around for over 30 years. In short; overlanding is a unique way to experience not only the places we visit but also the safari in getting there.
Overlanding refers to anyone who travels from place to place over land. You may have done a "road trip" with a group of friends or family across Europe or a weekend to a major festival... That is a type of Overlanding.
Overlanding is a safe way to safari through an African safari over land, with a group of like-minded individuals. Adapted 4x4 safari vehicles are used to ensure maximum comfort while experiencing the best Africa has to offer. We are completely self-sufficient, fully equipped with tents, camping chairs, sleeping mattresses, fresh water, complete kitchen (minus the microwave!) and a fire grill for those all important BBQs!!
Overlanding is the best way to see and experience Africa on Safari - you are not on your own but with a group of like-minded individuals and 2 experienced crew. Africa Safari Expedition Support crew choose to live and work in East Africa - hence their knowledge of the areas, animals, the people, politics and places to go is second to none. No problem is too big for them to sort. This gives you peace of mind, safety and security without it being an over-the-top fully guided tour (please note Africa Safari Expedition Support crew are drivers and leaders! Not guides - we do not use umbrellas!!); giving you a sense of independent travel but without the hassle of having to organise everything yourself.
Overlanding with Africa Safari Expedition Support gives you a unique insight into Africa not found on expensive fly-in lodge safaris.
What do you mean by guided African Safari self drive?
Guided self drive in Africa is not unlike a tag-along tour, however you will be driving one of our Land Rovers. Each African Safari group has a lead vehicle with 2 experienced crew who are on hand to sort out the day to day activities, meals and solve any issues which may arise throughout your African safari.
The lead African safari vehicle sets the speed and route taken on that day. However, when in game parks you are free to game drive on your own and at your own pace. This is what makes self drive African Safari so unique - you can choose to sit by a watering hole for hours on end and wait for the animals to come to you or you can drive around to see how much you can find. There is no pressure, nor competition for that perfect African Safari photo. Obviously, should you see something interesting it would be polite to inform the rest of the safari group via your CB radio!
You
are responsible for putting up and taking down your African safari
tent, and looking after the equipment supplied for your safari. The
African Safari crew prepares your meals and organizes activities;
you simply drive and enjoy the scenery.
Do I need to have extreme 4x4 off-road driving experience in Africa?
On our 7-14 day African safaris extreme 4x4 off-road driving experience is not essential, however you do need to be a capable driver. It is handy to have had some 4x4 experience (driving through mud and sand) however this is not essential. The crew is on-hand to answer any questions, and if you do get stuck they are only a radio message away from rescuing you. The crew is there to assist you in every way possible; the second crew member is also a driver and therefore is on call should another safari driver be required.
Q: What type of vehicle will we be traveling in on our African Safari?
African Safari Expedition Support has a variety of adapted overland safari 4x4 Land Rovers ranging from 2-5 seats. Each safari vehicle is equipped with Oz Tent, camp beds, kitchen cutlery and crockery, stereo, drinks cooler, luggage space, CB Radio, fire extinguisher, basic first aid kit, light for the tent, small inverter (UK plug), spare tyres and basic tools.
The lead African safari vehicle carries an extensive kitchen, tools, spare parts, and fridge.
